what we do, our advice...

The information on this site is intended to promote the amateur sport of canoeing and Copeland Canoe Club.

The Club recognises that "Canoeing and Kayaking are "assumed risk water contact sports" that may carry attendant risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be aware of the need for their own action and involvement".

Copeland Canoe Club is an affiliated member club of Paddle England (No. 954) and a PUK Quality Club. We are a Community Amateur Sports Club (no. CASC 00884).

training
Copeland Canoe Club recommends that anyone intending to take part in canoeing or kayaking activities should seek advice and training from an appropriately qualified (PUK) coach.
Coach ratios: we use the PUK guidelines as to the number of persons on the water per coach.

club activities
As from 1st October 2020 club activity for English based clubs affiliated to PUK is defined as:
Any activity that has been assessed as part of the club's safety framework and promoted on the club calendar, website or noticeboard.
Club activities also include inter-club activities where the responsibility for risk assessment and management is carried out and then shared between all participating clubs.
This ensures that those participating are covered by the Club's PUK insurance.
Members need to be aware that if they are not individual members of PUK and take part in an activity not promoted as a club activity they are not covered by the club's insurance policy.

policies
Copeland Canoe Club subscribes to the codes of conduct for equity and for young people / adults at risk as set out by Paddle UK (British Canoeing).
We subscribe to their policies with regard to photography and the use of video equipment.

Our code of conduct for all, coaches, members of all ages and parents, is set out in full on this website and in part on the membership form. All members are asked to sign that they will abide by it. Visitors are also asked to abide by this and a sample is provided on the visitor information leaflet.
